Okanagan Winemaking
WINEMAKER'S PHILOSOPHY
Over 15 years of winemaking experience has taught Grant Stanley two simple truths: source is everything; and despite all our interventions with hard work and technology, Mother Nature is still firmly in control, so working against her is futile. Without a great site and micro-climate, making great wine is impossible. Beautiful vineyards produce beautiful wines. On a spiritual level, Grant believes wine, in all its chemistry and complexity, tells a story of all that has gone into its creation. The wine crafter's job is to take all the complex individual stories of the land, the vineyard, the farmer, the vintage, the cellar, the cooper and the wine crafter himself, and then select and link them to form the greater epic that becomes a bottle of wine. Quails' Gate is a wine of place, craft and story. A gift of nature.
GRANT STANLEY

Grant is breaking new ground and focusing the wine practices of Quails' Gate on pursuit of terroir specific wines. Grant and the Stewarts are leading the way in helping to articulate the distinctive qualities of the Okanagan terroir that unequivocally define and shape the flavours of the grapes grown in the valley. Seeking to hone both the art and craft of Pinot Noir winemaking steered Grant to Quails' Gate. He is passionate about building a team to make one of the best Pinot Noirs in the world.
