2010 QUAILS' GATE CHASSELAS-PINOT BLANC-PINOT GRIS

Winemaker's Notes:

Harvested from the Quails' Gate Estate vineyards, the deep roots of these Chasselas vines extend into the subsoils of the Boucherie Mountain slopes, which brings more crisp, complex notes to the fruit. This unique cool climate region provides good heat and ripening potential while retaining bright acidity due to cool night temperatures. All 3 varietals are hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented cold in stainless steel tanks with cultured yeasts to preserve the crisp, fresh fruit flavours. The wine is best consumed young.

Tasting Notes:

The blending of these 3 varietals is conducted post
fermentation with some residual sweetness preserved to add balance to the acidity and provide weight, texture and freshness. The 10% Pinot Gris added provides lovely pear notes, which bond with the usual fresh fruit salad aroma that this well known blend is famous for. With moderate alcohol and fine balance, this wine is ideal for lighter pairings such as honey roasted pear and endive salad with arugula, candied pecans, Qualicum Blue Claire cheese, and sherry vinegar dressing.

Awards & Accolades:

87 points - Anthony Gismondi                                           Crisp clean tart nose with green apple, green peas and soapy/floral, mineral, citrus aromas. The attack is ultra-fresh and clean with more floral, pear, grapefruit and honey flavours. Simple but refreshing summer sipper. Load up.
