2009 QUAILS' GATE OLD VINES FOCH

Winemaker's Notes:

Named for the French World War I hero, General Ferdinand Foch, Marechal Foch grapes produce an intense and full bodied red wine. This Old Vines Foch was harvested in October 2009 from 27 year old vines in our Osoyoos vineyard. This site provides maximum heat during the growing season and produces very ripe, concentrated fruit picked at over 28 Brix, creating a classic Marechal Foch. Fermented to near dryness and aged in American oak barrels for 18 months, this wine will improve for up to 5 years.

Tasting Notes:

Marechal Foch has become a cult classic wine in B.C.
with its rich powerful frame, texture and complex gamey notes. Vibrant colour and aromas of dark fruit, Christmas cake, chocolate and saddle leather entwine with a savoury sweet and sour attack. A generous mouth feel and light supple tannins support this rich and round wine. Try pairing with roasted duck breast, vanilla and fennel polenta, leg confit croquettes and duck jus.
