Nestled along K.L.O Road in Kelowna, Wise Earth Farm is a thriving example of sustainable, small-scale agriculture in the Okanagan Valley. Originally founded in 2011 by John Hofer and Brenda Paterson, the farm is now operated by Myles Ferber, Ariana Gagnon, Gabby Gagnon, and a dedicated team of seasonal staff. Today, Wise Earth Farm is known for its commitment to regenerative farming practices and its strong ties to the local community.
Supplying Old Vines Restaurant with the Best of the Okanagan
Wise Earth Farm is a proud supplier of fresh, seasonal produce to Old Vines Restaurant. Their harvest includes a diverse selection of greens such as lettuce, arugula, and kale; vibrant root vegetables like carrots, beets, radishes, and salad turnips; aromatic herbs including cilantro and dill; and specialty crops such as fresh ginger, heirloom tomatoes, and baby cucumbers.
This partnership highlights the value of local food systems and the importance of farm-to-table connections in the Okanagan culinary scene.
A Bounty of Biodiversity
The farm takes full advantage of the Okanagan’s unique climate, which offers a long growing season with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. This allows for an impressive variety of crops including, but not limited to:
Arugula, basil, beans, beets, bok choy, broccoli, broccolini, cabbage, carrots, rainbow carrots, cauliflower, cilantro, dill, eggplant, garlic, black garlic, ginger, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce mix, melons, onions, oregano, parsley, parsnips, peas, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, radicchio, radishes, rhubarb, rosemary, sage, scallions, shallots, spinach, squash, swiss chard, tatsoi, thyme, tomatoes, turnips, patty pans, zucchini—and many more.
Wise Earth Farm’s diverse crop list not only enhances soil health and ecological balance but also provides the community with fresh, flavorful, and nutrient-rich produce throughout the season.
Rooted in Regenerative Practices
Wise Earth Farm is dedicated to regenerative food production, a holistic approach that strengthens soil vitality, promotes biodiversity, conserves water, and helps sequester carbon. Their growing methods reflect a deep respect for the land and a desire to leave it better than they found it.
The team uses human-scale tools to preserve soil structure, avoids synthetic chemicals entirely, and keeps soil covered and biologically active through techniques like cover cropping and solarization. Organic matter is returned to the soil, and every planting bed receives both compost and organic granular chicken fertilizer. The farm’s irrigation is sourced directly from Mission Creek, which runs behind the property.
Wise Earth Farm holds a Certified Naturally Grown designation, further affirming its environmentally responsible and transparent farming practices.
Serving the Kelowna Community
Beyond their restaurant partnerships, Wise Earth Farm also serves the local community through an online store, a Seasonal Vegetable Box Program, wholesale accounts, and regular appearances at the Kelowna Farmer’s Market.
The Okanagan region is not only defined by its fertile land and favorable climate, but also by its people—many of whom have embraced seasonal eating and the value of building relationships with local farmers. Wise Earth Farm plays an essential role in that movement, fostering a deeper connection between the land, the food it produces, and the people it nourishes.
