Sr. Viticulturalist / Vineyard Manager

An immediate opening exists for an experienced Vineyard Manager/Viticulturalist to oversee the vineyard operations for one of Canada’s leading estate wineries. With over 60 years of experience in growing high quality grapes in the Okanagan Valley, Quails’ Gate is currently seeking a dynamic individual to lead its viticulture team and manage over 300 acres of premium estate vineyards.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in vineyard management as well as relevant education in viticulture. You will have excellent management skills, a keen attention to detail and a drive to be innovative in the development of vineyard operations. As a manager you have a relentless drive for quality, a sharp eye to maintain an efficient operation and excellent communication skills. Annually you will prepare and submit the vineyard operation plan, budgets and capital requests. As part of the senior management team you will report monthly on your departments progress on financial and key performance indicators.

Based out of our  Kelowna office, we are seeking a talented individual to join our team and be responsible for overseeing the Quails’ Gate Wine Club administering  e-commerce sales and promotions. The Wine Club Manger champions the system/process to ensure Wine Club Members develop relationships, experience personalized service, cultivate member recognition, and participate in a variety of programs and events that enrich their experience with Quails’ Gate. This position works directly with the Business Development Manager  and department heads to ensure timely and appropriate communication regarding the benefits and services promised at the time of enrollment to Members. This positional also provides customer service to e-commerce customers and facilitates online wine sales programs.

  • 3-5 year of retail experience in a related field (Winery or luxury goods)
  • Supervisory or management experience in retail is an asset
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, hospitality or business
  • Flexible schedule, ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Valid Serving It Right Certificate
  • WSET Level 2 or greater (recommended)
  • FOODSAFE 1 (an asset)

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Wine Shop Sales Manager in hiring and training team members to achieve Quails’ Gate vision and the day-to-day tasks
  • Assist with selection, ordering & maintenance of wine and sundry items
  • Provide leadership and motivation, creating and maintain a positive work environment that motivates the team
  • Participate in Cellar Door Club program
  • Provide support in the day-to-day operation of the store as needed
  • Supports and implements strategies to maximize revenue, minimize expenses and drive gains to the bottom line
  • Assist in administrative duties included and not limited to data entry, inventory, coordinating group events and maintaining the POS system and reservations system

Finance Controller - Projects

The Finance Controller – Projects provides financial oversight and tracking of all capital project costs and funding within the company’s financial accounting system for the company’s multi-year capital program. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining financial controls and developing and providing timely capital reporting to relevant stakeholders. The role supports sound management of capital projects through strong data analytics, variance and earned value analysis and the development of business cases. Focus on process improvements with the end result being a net margin gain will be key to this role.

Although a member of the Finance team, the Finance Controller – Projects works closely with the Operations and Production teams and the company’s IT Manager.

The ability to contribute to the effective management of all dimensions of project management while optimizing scarce resources, building and nurturing professional relationships, and communicating effectively on behalf of the CFO, is essential to the success of this role.

  • Break down, clean, and sanitize the dish area at the end of the day

  • Ensure regular communication with Chef/Sous Chef regarding dish area issues and ordering of product

  • 2 years minimum experience working in a supervisory capacity
  • Ability to communicate on an on-going basis and motivate team members to perform to their maximum level of productivity
  • Previous experience operating applicable tools and related equipment
  • Basic understanding of vineyard operations and horticulture
  • Good estimating ability and organizational skills
  • Availability to work up to 60+ hours/wk, Mon.-Sat. with occasional Sunday work
  • Available to travel to vineyard sites in West and East Kelowna as well as Osoyoos and any other vineyards where we harvest grapes
  • Basic Spanish is an asset

 

Responsibilities:

  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of all tasks completed by the team and the time taken for each task
  • Reporting of potential problems with employees, equipment or other resources to the vineyard management team
  • Monitor the vineyard’s health for disease, deficiencies and stress and and report findings to Vineyard Manager
  • Maintain and track all tools and supplies as related to the field crews assigned tasks
  • Continuously look for ways to improve performance, health and safety, efficiency and cost savings when it comes to vineyard operations
  • Lead hands are also tasked with general vineyard duties including but not limited to: pruning, tying, shoot positioning, canopy maintenance, fruit thinning, picking and planting or other duties as requested by, or in conjunction with the vineyard operations team.
  • Support daily safe work practices

 

Rate of Pay:
Rate of pay will be determined based on experience and qualifications
